CAR CULTURE HAFADAZE

HFDZ Coverage of Slammed Society Guam 2017

Hafa adai, all! Regular readers are probably used to this by now… but as we always say, better late then never! Slammed Society Guam made it’s return to the island for another showcase of the Guam’s finest rides. Can’t believe it’s been 4 years since the first one. You may have noticed that HAFADAZE itself hasn’t been visible at the shows or meets recently… social media too… because well, “life happens.” We’ve been very fortunate to have friends like Myer-Admyerphotos and Jed-Jed Espino Photography who continue to provide coverage of the events for us all… Capturing photos of the event is actually the hard part since they slave in the sun and then on the computer for edits while I’m here typing this up in aircon drinking my milk tea… Thank you so much guys. So will HAFADAZE still be around? Yea, we will be. Will more gear ever come around? Maybe. Will we continue to support the car scene on island? As time permits — as best as we can chelu’s…

This year’s Slammed Society took place at the old Dededo Flea Market… I heard the space was tight from a few car owners… But honestly, I thought the location was an awesome idea. What do you mean “you heard…?” Yea, I heard… Because believe it or not, I “attended” the show via Facebook Live and Instagram. Social media is cray, yo… Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it to the show grounds, but I felt like I was really there — thanks to all my friends who went live that night. You the real MVPs.

One of my favorite Honda builds in recent years… Michael Franco’s K-swapped 93 EG was out and about relatively unchanged from the last time I saw it…

Ranz Tano’s Power Move IS250… I believe he took home 3rd place honors in the Sedan category… Nothing over the top here, just a very clean and well-executed build — just like his 7th gen Civic from years ago.

MTX~Anthony Unchangco’s IS350… It’s great to see that he gave it new life with the 3IS front conversion. I went through our gallery of pictures to see if there was a shot of the rear wheel fitment, but nada. Anthony went with some oni-camber in the back…  If you wanna check out his full build follow him on IG @mtx_dragguam671.

Yep, another 2IS with a 3Is conversion… This one running on the best wheels of all time, Volk TE37s.

It ain’t a Guam car show without the ToyzRUs crew…

Brandon Guimarey of FPS Video’s WRX sitting on Cosmis wheels… Seeing this car on the road makes you just wanna try him out cuz of that APR wing. lol

Another WRX… This one owned by Jervin Aquino. Great daily-driver build. I see it at least once a week parked at the gym and love how it’s progressed over time. The TE37SL Black Edition wheels really set it off…

TRU~Ray Roque has been joining shows the past few years and it’s nice to see that he’s finally completed the JDM look with the new CTR front end conversion.

to match his JDM rear conversion…

MTX~Julius Franco’s airred out Honda Odyssey sitting on candy red Aristo Forged V5s… Believe it or not, this isn’t a soccer mom van, it’s actually a stripper pimp mobile. Look closely at the right side of the front windshield and you’ll see the stripper pole… lol

Roswell aka Rowell “From Hell” Santos finally returned from the pits filled of hellfire and brimstone with his stunning S13 build. This thing is just straight fire. The lip on the rear of his Work Rezax’s is fatter than Forrest Gump’s best friend Bubba’s lip… At the end of the night, Rowell took home the “Best Slammed” award which was definitely well-deserved.

Rowell’s heart of gold… powered by Subway chocolate chip cookies and 12 inch triple meat Italian BMTs…

Another surprise to showgoers was Ben Garcia’s candy red S14 on Work Meisters. Seeing this car next to Rowell’s… man it’s just not fair. They’ve take home a best crew award at our AutoFiesta show in the past and were dormant for awhile… They finally came out again… and came out HARD for SSGU17. Once underdogs in the scene on Guam… Now they’re sitting pretty as the big dogs. Woof.

Closer look at the immaculate Meisters…

Anthony Porte’s S13… also from Team Abunai. Not sure what the term is for the look of the headlights… lazy eyes? Majin Buu eyes? Kitan-style?

Team Abunai — James Antonio’s S14 sitting on Work Kiwamis… Wonder how many 21-year old Japanese chix he’d pick up with that license plate in Tumon?

Team Abunai Allan Cabedo’s completely redone S13….  I had to ask around to double check if this was in fact the same car that I thought it was… If you’re from up north, you’ve probably seen this car running around in it’s “my-240-is-rusted, has-crooked-panels, and mismatched-paint-but-I’m-still-working-on-it” look. Now it’s super cherry. Great job man!

Another surprise was this AE86 sitting on RS Watanabes owned by “@_lenchan.” Simple and straight to the point. Such a classic and minty look… dare I say it looks to be in better condition than most of the newer cars on our roads.

Abunai~Jimmy’s vinyl wrapped SR20DET powered S13…

If there was a car that got more attention than Rowell’s car that night, it had to be Jimmy’s other S13, this powered by a 2 Jay-Z can I get an encore… The first picture I got on my Whatsapp chat lines that afternoon were of this car, which eventually took home 1st place honors in the JDM category. Everyone was talking about Abunai’s lineup that night… Awesome job homies.

Another cool build was this TSX from Team Murata… It had some nice carbon goodies from Passwordjdm and course was sitting on some badass Rays Gramlights with a neochrome lip. 😉

Justin Rosario’s newly done up RX7… Glad he made it to the show because he was definitely cutting it close. I was following his IG story the night before SSGU17… and it looked like they painted and assembled it just hours before roll-in time.

Angel Dacanay’s immaculate R32…

GODZILLA….

Mock Sardoma’s Honda Accord… You don’t see too many people fixing these up the way he does…

Check out that lip-fender kissing action…

I always get a kick out of XB builds… Here’s a clean one from Team Exile.

Rocket Bunny flared BRZ… Also from Team Exile.

RX7 with a 2JZ heart…

JNKSHT’s ballin LS460 was in attendance as well…

Nate2Chains with the craziest Camry on Guam right now… This guy can stuff anything into those fender wells.

Living up to his namesake… Rex “The Destroyer” Deseo in his Proline S14…

Rex’s other car, this R32 4-door Skyline… This one I hope he doesn’t destroy…

MTX_Bippusan’s RC350… Looks like he put this car back to stock shortly after the show and upgraded to a brand new GS350. Can’t wait to see what he has planned for that one!

Clean H22 powered Integra from ToyzRUs…

Also representing ToyzRUs, Jed Espino’s TSX on Work Wheels… Once again, big thanks and props to Jed for providing the photo coverage for SSGU17. Follow him on IG @jeders!

Rear shot of Jed rocking that ultra rare all-white letter HAFADAZE plate frame. 😉

John Little John’s Toyota 86 from Menace 2 Society…

Noel Manansala’s neck-breaking Lexus LS… He stuck with the gold wrap this time around but completely changed the gangster-theme he had going on to now a Roman type theme… At first glance, it’s pretty over the top… But I definitely appreciate this kind of build since a lot of we see nowadays are a drop, rims, exhaust and stickers…

Yea, those are grapes in there… and a king’s chair too. I actually caught up with him over the weekend and he explained to me what he was going for. I won’t describe it all here, but the next time you see him at the shows, ask him about it. I’m not claiming to be an expert or anything, but attending all these car events and even being a judge in a couple… I can tell when someone really put some thought into how they built their car… and that Noel did. Hope to see some more crazy stuff from this guy in the future.

When I say crazy… I mean who turns their Porsche into a taxi? Noel does… lol

All in all, this show was a good way to end the year. We hear that Battle Showcase is returning in early 2018 and another show will be in the works to coincide with Smokin’ Wheels. Thank you to the show organizers Fatlace x Upshift for putting on another successful event.

See ya on the road!
Esta,
