Restaurant: Submarina California Subs
Location: Route 16, Army Drive
Open: Monday – Saturday: 10:30AM – 8PM
Sunday: 10:30AM – 8PM

HafaDaze! Our first “BOKA” feature came at a great time. The HD guys usually are more attracted to fried chicken joints ahem…VONS…ahem…but it was decided that Submarina California Subs in Barrigada would be fitting because we all need to lose some weight after the holidays plumped us up real nice. If we were pigs, we literally would be roasting in the pit. Anyway…

We arrived at Submarina at around 12:30pm. The line was pretty long considering that it was the Monday right after Christmas. I believe the restaurant opened 6 months ago and judging by the crowd, it’s looking pretty good, business-wise for them. The ambiance is pretty nice, bright yellow walls and this big picture of Guam right in the main dining area. There were also some flat-screen TVs around for those who can’t get enough TV at home.

This was not my first time there, actually I’ve been there maybe 2-3 times previously since it opened. The sandwiches have always been really good. Since I was going on my eat-smaller-quantities-diet-mode, I decided to go with the 3 incher turkey and roast beef sub with no cheese. I would later regret this… because the cheeses at Submarina are da bommmmmb! They are not like the Kraft singles slices at Payless. These are the real deal, heavy, smelly, full of milk-fat cheeses. Willpower won me over. It’s also noteworthy to add that the meats are freshly cut as you can see the dude in the pictures slicing them. Primo was working up a sweat cutting all the meats for all the customers! Solid prim, solid. I had them pile on a bunch of veggies and some balsamic vinaigrette and I was good to go. I forget the exact cost, but with a side of chips and a medium fountain drink, it was around 10 bucks. A bit higher in price than Subway, but it’s a good changeup.

There’s a bunch of other stuff on the menu (check the pic)… Like cookies, macaroni salad, soup, and ice cream (genious). But it’s hard to give everything a try because the sandwich itself will fill you up faster than fasss man! I’ll probably give them a try during future visits.

So far everything has been sounding good… but there are some things Submarina needs to improve on. Two words to management (high-unlikely they would ever read this, but I guess if you guys spread the word enough… who knows! Wink wink 😉 ) Customer service! Ai adai. It’s been pretty much the same since those previous visits. The workers don’t look happy. They don’t greet you with any warmth. They have no Hafa Adai Spirit! And the worker at the register… ai, I thought you would have learned by now. Smile, you got teeth to show off. Doffe’ people would love to be you! :O

Overall, HafaDaze gives Submarina California Subs 3.5 out of 5 Spam cans. Food is great. Value is good… but they need some customer service training, pronto!

.

Sh,shooooot!
