Art’s Civic – The good, good life.

This write-up is going to be a little special (hope you don’t get too bored!) because pictured above is Hafadaze crew member, RTHR with his 2007 Honda Civic SI sedan. Frequent HD visitors will know that RTHR has since packed his bags, shipped his car and himself over to sunny Southern California. I give him props for having the guts to drop everything he had here and pursue his dreams – even with so many obstacles and uncertainties. It’s gonna be a good life, bro!

I’ve known RTHR for a long time now. I first met him many years ago playing a game called Starcraft which we played online, yea nerd status. This is totally off topic but RTHR and I also first met now Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio on that very same game even BEFORE he was aspiring to be a politician. We used to whoop the Lt. Gov’s butt all day! Anyway…

RTHR was never really into cars when we friends during the Starcraft days. However the time finally came for him to get a car of his own, ditching the Toyota Corolla mom-hand-me-down. He bought the car you see above, which was a 2008 Civic LX coupe. At the time, the car scene was kinda slowing down here on island, but when there were Honda events, I would shoot him a text to invite him to cruise with the Menace 2 Society fam. Initially, his choice of mods weren’t the greatest (to my tastes anyway). Just take a look at those bronze rims up there… I think he even had 2 sets of these at one point?

Fast-forward some time and he eventually came up with this. The automatic coupe was actually looking pretty damn nice – I would even say it was the best looking 06+ coupe on the island at the time. I can’t seem to find the pictures of when he had some aggressive fitting Enkei RPF1s on there… but trust, they looked sick!

Then one day he found a used 07 SI sedan at Triple J’s used car parking lot. He sold his coupe faster da fasss man and brought his brand-used SI home. RTHR learned many things from originally modifying his coupe – one was not to skimp on fake parts – another was to do everything right the first time – and lastly, to never look back at the “cheap” mistakes made. So that’s exactly what he did.

One of the first mods he did on the SI was the full Honda Factory Performance lip kit – straight from the dealer. He rounded out the exterior with aesthetically pleasing JDM emblems and an OEM foglight kit. The pic above doesn’t show the red H emblem because it was saki-ed right before the shoot! haha

RTHR went balls-out on his wheel choice – deciding to choose in my opinion, THE rim to have in the Honda scene – Desmond Regamaster MP Evo (17×8 +35). These wheels will make a shitty car look amazing and a pretty nice car downright outrageous! To make the car look even more aggressive, he chose a coilover kit he knew would not only be good on his wallet but would perform – Buddy Club N+ dampers.

The rest of his car remained relatively stock – although he did have a few Spoon goodies lurking inside and out. πŸ™‚ RTHR eventually became part of the Menace Fam and was reppin’ pretty hard at this year’s Triple J Honda-tech meet. Catch the vid here (watch around the 2:53 mark):

Since the photoshoot, the car had been returned to mostly stock before he shipped it to California. I have the rims here sitting in my room, which are for sale. Let me know if you’re interested or know someone who may be.

RTHR’s journey with his ride is very similar to mine. There’s a time when that bug hits you… and you just start modding and modding until your bank account feels like it got decked by BJ Penn. Tuners out there – you know that feeling. However, there is also a time when you start to realize that your car, project, or anything else that life throws at you just has to take the backseat to more important priorities in life and maybe, just maybe – even dreams. The bug will hit me again and I’m sure it will hit RTHR. But for the time being, we’re just going to be chillen, living the good, good life!
